Next Door, Visit Our Family Inn

The Homestead Inn is one of the oldest authentic family owned and operated inns remaining in America today, founded by Moses & Sarah Aldrich, Sugar Hill's first permanent settlers, on a "pitch" swapped for a homespun wedding coat & notes. It was built in 1802, replacing the crude log cabin that served as our ancestor's fist home. And in 1898, expanded to approximately its present size to accommodate "city boarders".

One of The Homestead's most unique attributes is having been handed down through seven descending generations of the same family, an unbroken chain linking America of the 1700s and America Today.

Hand hewn virgin timbers, wide pine boards, hardwood flooring all cut from family forests add to the authenticity and atmosphere of the Inn. In use and on display at the Inn are accumulated heirlooms and family possessions dating back to Moses & Sarah including their bedstead and blanket chest brought by ox cart.

Collections of antiques, glass, china, silver, copper and particularly the exceptional handiwork of Essie Serafini, devoted and often written about hostess of the Inn for some seventy years, make evident the contributions of the previous generations and the pride they took in their home. And so you will find it with few changes, other than private baths and amenities for your comfort, so as to preserve the heritage and friendly unpretentious charm of this historic landmark. The nostalgia and hospitality of a bygone era are still to be found at The Homestead. Children and pets are welcome!

Presently a Bed & Breakfast featuring wonderful country fare. Dinner for groups arranged. A favorite gathering place for small get-togethers and family reunions.
